Wake Me When Its Time To Go

I am doing everything I can to stay awake at work. I am trying to cut caffeine out my diet to help with the digestive problems. Sweet Jesus, I must have been living powered by caffeine. Where's my jammies, I need a nap.

Or it could be a combination of no caffeine and a food combining mixup.

132.9

Are you kidding me? If you listen closely, you can still hear me screaming!

129.2

I think it has less to do with the 30 Day Shred and more to do with a little bit of personal drama that's taken away my appetite. Either way, I hope it sticks. 2 days ago the scale said 134.5

Half Way

Day 15. Half way. See that "Lose  Up To 20 Pounds in 30 Days" Well I am not even half way, I am not even a quarter of the way or an 1/8 of the way for that matter. I am wondering if you can actually do 30 days and just maintain. What a sad thought...

Pretend

I had to resort to the cafeteria today because I didn't plan ahead. The fish looked "ify" and there's nothing worse than ify fish so I went with the vegetable plate. I am pretending it's the hamburger and french fries that I really wanted...

Public Service Announcement

If you are trying to slim down it's best not to bring kit kats and rolos in to the house. And under no circumstance should you bake a chocolate cake.

The Truth Hurts

I got a does of reality today when I put on my "fat" suit and found the skirt to be a little tight.

I thought I was holding steady. Not losing but not gaining. The number on the scale hasn't moved up but when your go to suit is getting tight, it's like a splash of cold water.

I need to stick the plan. My 25yr High School Class Reunion is this summer, that should be motivating enough but I am slow to get serious about getting into shape.

What I know doesn't work is eating a kit kat while watching the Biggest Loser...

Constant Reminder

I am trying to have a nice quite morning. First one up, reading some blogs, and keep being harassed by this damn ad

seeing it once or twice - coincidence, three or more times - someone's following me. Thank goodness she's blonde (I am a brunette) or I'd have to punch my computer.

The Holiday Aftermath

131.4. What an ugly number to someone who has to wear heels to officially make the 5' mark. No point crying about it now. Time to get tough and learn to tell myself no...no cookie...no pizza. Who am I kidding, I need to say not so much rather than no...

Injury update: 2-4 months before I can run again. Seems like a lifetime away especially since I am noticing a limp after I set for an extended period. Starting to wonder if I will have to consider a future without running....

It's All In The Planning

As much as I hate to admit it, I learned this weekend that if I don’t plan ahead what I am going to eat, I’ll eat whenever I want and all I want.
Thank goodness there's so many creative and generous bloggers out there. I found this handy free printable food journal from Jen Allyson at TheProjectGirl.com. If you haven’t checked her out, you should. You can also find a Workout Worksheet.

Goal Setting

My goal for 2010 is to lose at least15lbs so I can wear my SPI Belt (should I ever run again) without it ending up sitting under my breast. I actually would like to accomplish more than just that in 2010 but I am pacing myself.

126.3

I think it's a fluke but I am too sick to care right now.

Phyiscal therapy update - getting better, the knots in my muscles are almost gone. Still walk with a limp. Seriously, who would have thought running 6 miles injured would have caused this much damage. All for that stinkin necklace.

but it is pretty....

Keeping It Real

I went to bed hungry. Don't feel bad for me. Remember the muffin, hamburger, french fries, mikes and ikes. I added some peppermint bark, grilled cheese and spinach sandwich, spoonful of mac and cheese, and a spoonful of cornbread dressing, and a fun size pack of m & ms
I was hungry by 8:00pm.

Luckily for me, I made the mistake of stopping at the mall on the way home yesterday to pick something up. I decided to try some clothes on. Nothing like standing in a dressing room in a sweaty state of frustration to give you a dose of reality.

126.6lbs on a 5ft frame is not a good look, no matter how that 126.6 is distributed

Back in the Saddle

Or more likely butt in seat.  Today was my first workout since the Nike Half. One of my fellow runners actually clapped when he saw me approaching the gym.

All in all 45 minutes went pretty quickly.

Since my running shoes are put up for the rest of 2009, I am going to focus on weight management. Which I hope translate to weight loss, but I had a muffin for breakfast, hamburger and fries, and a co-worker bought me a 10lb bag of mikes and ikes so I am not off to a good start.

Wish me luck. The scale read 126.6 this morning. If I am brave enough I'll post my weight every Monday.

4 "Ps and an "E"

I have no exciting news on the running front. Just 3 miles here, 3 miles there on the treadmill and the occassional icing of the foot. I intend to just keep to easy runs mostly for sanity and calorie burn. If I can keep up things up on the exercise front I am almost certain I can find success on the weight loss front. I am telling you this Beck Diet Solution stuff is earth shattering for me.

First, let me say that while the book allows you to choose the diet plan of your choice, I am not into diets. I am not low carbing it, I am not low protiening it, I am not cutting any food group out and that includes sugar, prior to Fat Tuesday that is. I just want to eat quality food ( a majority of the time).

One concept discussed is Planning. Many years ago in another lifetime I was introduced to the 6 Ps - Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance which I have found to hold true in most situations. I am a planner. I love to plan. Parties, projects, etc, not what I am going to eat. But damn it if the book didn't prove to me yesterday that Prior Planning Prevents Poor Eating! Monday and Tuesday I planned out all my meals and snacks. Crossed things off as I eat. Didn't panic when hunger struck.Truthfully I felt hungry a good portion of the day. (I've increased my calories slightly today too see if I could spend a little less time hungry) Any way, Tuesday night rolls around, then Wednesday morning and laziness sets in. Really how hard is it sit down spend a couple of minutes planning what to eat? That's laziness at it's finest. So as you can guess Wednesday's eating was out of whack. Nothing damaging but just more than needed.

Today I am equipped with my plan and I amazed at the power this written plan has on me. I am hungry right now but my snack really shouldn't take place until about 3:00ish so I will happily wait, because that's the plan, and it's on paper.I kind of get annoyed that I am such a stinkin rule follower but if planning my meals on a piece of pink legal pad paper leads me be a fit size 4 rule follower again than lead on...

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

For a smart girl, I often wonder why can't I lose that pesky ten lbs, which has alarming hit close to 20lbs in the last few years. I know what to eat. I like to run. Should be easy. Calories in, calories out. I've considered things like fear of failure, no self control, my sugar addiction etc, but still end up back at why is this so hard?

Then I happened to stumble across this book recently. Below is an excerpt from a review

It all starts with how you think. With other programs, you think about nothing but food: counting, weighing, and worst of all, food you can't have. This way of thinking inevitably contributes to diet failure. The Beck Diet Solution is the only program that helps dieters use Cognitive Therapy methods, based on research to forever change those treacherous thought patterns that lead to overeating, cheating, excuses, and other dieting downfalls.

What do you mean my thinking has something to do with it? This has been a big eye opener. Concepts such as Eat Sitting Down. This in itself has been life changing. I was amazed at how rarely I eat sitting down. Not just meals, but snacks, a taste here, a taste there. I can't believe the amount times I caught myself putting food in my mouth and realized I was standing.

Another concept Pratice Hunger Tolerance, hunger is not an emergency. Some of you fit and trim girls maybe laughing but it always felt like an emergency to me. Where I got this feeling I have no clue but I sure become one cranky girl if I get hungry.

This is the first thing I've read about weight loss that hasn't made me feel that it takes some kind of magical combination of what you eat, when you eat, and the moon and stars aligning to be successful and it has nothing to do with low carbs, counting points, or having food delivered to my door.

Many, many, many years ago I made an easy decision to be a "happy person", to stop focusing on the negative and just be happy.I will be completely floored if all years of weight struggle, many when I was a perfect size but could not see it, could have been averted if I just chose to be a thin person. Make that a happy thin person.

No New Developments

I particpated in the Atlanta Challenge recently. A 8 or 12 week program, can't remember, designed to promote a healthy lifestyle. This was my beginning assessment...

Your BodyAge is 36 compared to your chronological age of 41. BodyAge is calculated
from the results of your assessments and how you compare with others of your same age and
sex. Ideally, your BodyAge should be at least the same as your Chronological Age. Your
obtainable BodyAge is what you can realistically reach with a well-rounded wellness program. Consult with your fitness trainer to set realistic goals in fitness and lifestyle changes to reach your obtainable BodyAge.

This was pretty good news. They told me I could actually reach an obtainable body age of 29. That was very exciting. Today was the post assessment ~ not so exciting. I am pretty much the exact same. I think my body fat % was better but that's it. I know I should focus on the fact that at least I didn't go backwards. But working out 4-5 days a week in my target heart for 40-45 minutes and trying to eat right and no real results. Well that just stinks. I am tired of getting up at 4:30 to be to the gym by 5:30. I am tired of the treadmill, and you don't even want to get me started on the elliptical. But what's a chubby girl to do. Is my future dismal? They say as you age you have to up your activity to get the same results. I want better results. More of the same is depressing.

Now what? Well my company just launched an 8 week slim down competition. Started last week (Sept 29). The competition is made of teams throughout the company. I along with 3 of my co-workers are on a team. You weigh weekly. I thought being faced with failing in front of my co-workers would ensure success. Now I am not so sure. If I keep up my current routine. I may finish right where I started. I could break out in a cold sweat just thinking about it. Fail in front of my co-workers. I am too type A for this. Ok I have to pull myself together and start working off some poundage.

The first week went ok, the scale showed a 1.2lb loss. I say ok because I know I could step on the scale today and it could show a 2lb gain. Up and down, up and down, depending on the day of the week, time of day, etc I usually have a 3lb spread. Well there's no where to go but down from here (fingers crossed)

Oh, I did run 2.5 miles this morning ~ had to cut workout short because of the 8:00am post assessment requirement of no exercise 2 hours before.

9/29 starting weight 125.5

end of week 1 weight 124.3
